Response to Classmates Mini-Project Essay There is no doubt that English is the most spoken language in the world. Numerous countries use it to communicate everyday even if it is not their official language. Other countries are beginning to see the need to learn it to advance economically, which is why they choose to go to the United States to learn and experience the language first hand or enroll in ESL classes. Bilingualism is important because it allows a person to have an edge against others who only know how to communicate in their native tongue. As a Second Language Learner, I think that it is important to indicate how essential it is to have properly funded bilingual programs for the children who want to learn academically but are not native speakers of the English language. This is the only way in which these second language learners will be able to maximize their experience with the English language. It is also better if they start while they are young because this will make it easier for them to learn and mingle with students who are like them. It will enhance their social skills, which will allow them to learn the language in a more personal way. This is entirely different from that of the adults because adults are much harder to teach because they already know so much about their native language that their ways might be hard to change. I agree with Allison that learning the English language is in line with the â€Å"melting pot† philosophy of the country. This is the reason why bilingual programs should be supported for those who are not native speakers of the language. However, it is also important to note that learning English does not necessarily mean that the person is neglecting his or her native tongue. It would be very difficult to replace something so original such as one’s native language. Response to Kristina’s mini project: I believe that students should be taught in the English language. English is the universal language and most books and resources are found in the English language. This fact will make it hard for people to teach or learn academically in their native tongues because not every term can be translated in their own languages. It would also be hard for them to find resources that are printed in their language. As such, the need for bilingual education is apparent. People, especially those who believe that bilingual education does not benefit the children, have to understand that learning a new language is not that easy. A student will not be able to learn as fast, especially if the English language is not spoken at home on a regular and constant basis. The participation of the family and the student is needed for faster learning of the language. It is also significant to keep in mind that English is not the only language in the world and that we have to respect other countries’ languages. It is certainly not a waste of time to learn a language. On the contrary, it provides a whole new experience for the learner because it is one way of learning another country’s culture and tradition. Second language learning is beneficial for students no matter what opponents might say. They are not the ones who experience the learning. It is the students who should be questioned if this learning is really beneficial to them. It is their opinions that truly matter and not those who oppose second language learning. Bilingual education does not promote language death. One cannot replace or forget his or her native language in the process of learning a new one. I agree with Kristina’s statement that promoting bilingual or multilingual languages can eliminate language deaths. People should be more supportive of each other’s languages so that they do not experience language barriers in the future.

The Types Of Murder Murder is defined as 1. The action or an act of killing. a. The deliberate and unlawful killing of a human being, esp. in a premeditated manner; (Law) criminal homicide with malice aforethought (occas. more fully wilful murder); an instance of this. What makes the murder is the wilful killing of a human being by another human being. There are many people killed each year and in different ways which has developed different type of murderers with similar punishments for each one. The different types are A one off murder A one off murder that happens to a person that doesnt necessarily have the psychological profile of the average murderer but under difficult circumstances or situations becomes one. Spree killers are the type of murderers where after killing a few victims they pass to another location where they keep killing more victims without any cooling-off period. The hedonistic type simply enjoys killing victim and has a taste for the buzz. The power-oriented type is the type whom enjoys power over the people he is going to kill. They seem to cant help themselves when kidnapping and controlling their victims so they do as they say. Harold shipman would most likely be the hedonistic. Harold seemed to get a thrill of watching his victim die; in his eyes it seem to give him control over life and death. Also mission-oriented type as people who knew him did not suspect a thing even police officers. However a close friend of Harold shipman disagreed with this and stated that Shipman had anxiety issues, perhaps one that Shipman did not know about. The Characteristics of a murderer of this this type usually is due to the Childhood. Childhood violence being, it is highly unlikely a serial killer suddenly at 40 changes from a normal person and turns into a disruptive murderous behaviour. The behavior that is used when the murder is committing the act would have been with him or her for a very long time, since childhood. In some instances it is not always the serial killer is brought up in an unstable home, it can be that the serial killer started life as a big happy family where everything was steady and satisfactory and instead later come across serious emotional abuse during their childhoods. Developing into a dysfunctional adult where not being able to sustain relationships with others. Serious emotional abuse for Harold shipman seeing his mother dying. And by pills From birth to teenage years, the mother is seen as the more vital adult in a childs life and to where there is a period the child learns what love is. Where there have been situations that the mother was distant and neglectful to the child, the child has been deprived of his mothers love. Harold shipman losing his mum no love. The emotional abuse targeted at the children was mental and physical. The child would be in an environment where his actions were ignored and limitations on behaviour were not set. Harold shipman having no limitations on childhood, gave him the chance to kill, kill Another characteristic is the murderers Fantasies Usually murderers believe in effect that they could control the world. In their childhood sustain all the repetitive abuse compensates for them carrying out their action to fulfil their fantasy. Their Fantasy being a happenstance which usually cannot happen in normal life. A normal individual learns to place limits on their behaviour whereas the person who has lacked limitations on his behaviour from his childhood thinks he is able to act out his fantasy and nobody is able to stop him. Harold shipmans childhood, would consisted of no one laying down limitations on his behaviour causing him to believe he can act his fantasy where he can kill people as he pleases. After many murderous acts, Harold then seems to believe he is somewhat invincible and never be caught. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a disorder that makes an individual have an obsession with organization, rules, and or perfection which causes them to have a specific way of doing things in everyday tasks. Treatment Transition: I would first like to discuss the symptoms to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. V. Body A. Symptoms: Those who have obsessive compulsive disorder have obstinate obsessions and use compulsions to control the anxiety these contemplations create. 1. The typical obsessions of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder are the need for order, neatness, exactness, symmetry, fear of causing harm to another, fear of being embarrassed, fear of germs. 2.The most common compulsions a person with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder deal with in their daily life are listed as constantly ordering certain objects, straightening and cleaning things, repeatedly washing hands, refusing to touch doorknobs or handles, refusing to shake hands, and repeating certain phrases, words, or prayers. Transition: Now that I have told you about the symptoms of OCD, I will inform you on the causes. B. Causes: Researches have yet to determine an exact cause of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Through studies they have found two factors that are primarily the common causes. 1.An individual’s physical environment commonly causes Obsessive Compulsive-Disorder. The stresses of life, a death in the family or close friend, or an abusive relationship or childhood can all cause and make the severity of the disorder inferior. 2. Experts believe through studies biological factors are a common causes to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. WebMD states, â€Å"Brain scans of people with OCD have shown that they have different patterns of brain activity than people without OCD and that abnormal functioning of circuitry within a certain part of the brain (striatum) may cause the disorder. â€Å"WebMd†)† Transition: To finish I would like to discuss the methods of treating OCD. C. Treatment: There is treatment for those who suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, but unfortunately many individuals who have this disorder refuse to seek treatment and will often deny they have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. 1. Counseling is one recommended and common treatment. The most effective type of counseling is a type of cognitive-behavior therapy called exposure and response prevention.It consists of exposing the individual to the obsession that causes anxiety, starting from moderate to extreme. 2. Medicines are the second alternative and common treatment to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Antidepressants are often prescribed to treat OCD and are proven to be the most effective. Individuals are monitored on the effectiveness of the prescribed medication, and results determine will determine the increase of dosage or the change of prescription. VI. ConclusionIn conclusion, there are many individuals who have minimum cases where they don’t realize they have to disorder and have little effect to severe cases where it causes an effect on individuals to have a negative relationship with family, friends, and acquaintances.
